Opening OpenOffice Writer

In Windows you can launch Writer from the start menu here:
Start->Programs->OpenOffice.org 3.1->OpenOffice.org Writer

Creating a new document

Writer will open with a new document by default, if you are already editing a document and would like to create a new one there are several methods:

By hotkey:
Press and hold CTRL then press N (CTRL+N)

By toolbar:
Click the New icon (OpenOffice.org Writer - New Document Icon)in the toolbar

By Menu:

  1. Click File
  2. Click New
  3. Click Text Document

By Windows start menu

  1. Click Start
  2. Click Programs
  3. Click OpenOffice.org 3.1
  4. Click OpenOffice.org Writer

Opening an Existing Document

There are several ways to open an existing document:

From Windows Explorer
In Windows explorer, double-click on the document to open it

From within Writer
To open a document from within Writer you have several options:

By File Menu:
Click File->Open

By Hot Key:
Press and hold CTRL then press O (CTRL+O)
